My cultural artifact is the fields. They have significantly impacted my life since I was a little girl. My parents have worked in the fields ever since they came to the United States and since I can remember I would notice how hard they would work and how tired they would get home. Whenever I would see fields I would think to myself that I needed to go to school and study hard so I wouldn't have to work in those conditions that my parents did. My parents would always tell me the same thing and as I grew older that message became more and more motivating to me because I wanted to make my parents proud and not go through the same thing they did when I actually have the opportunity to get an education and work in better conditions. I also got to work in the fields and I experienced it myself that it is hard and the working conditions are not good, having that little experience pushed me more towards my goals of going to college and pursuing a career of my choice. Working in the fields made me feel like a hard working person I just wouldn't want that as my everyday job I wanted better and I knew I had the chance to do better. This helped shape who I am because if it wasn't for that experience or listening to my parents' advice I would've never had the mentality I have now that not everything is given to you, you have to work for it. I also value my opportunities more because I noticed that not everyone has the privilege to have them. Looking back at this cultural artifact using my "critically vigilant" lenses, I do not see this artifact different because ever since I got to experience it first hand I sticked to my goals of going to school and getting a career.
Hi Rosalba,
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed reading your blog and felt like I could relate. The picture of the fields really portray a lot more than what it seems, also I feel like it expressed background and how we should grow as generations come and go.
